About Kohai
We accept students with many different labels: ASD, genetic disorders, LD, ADD, ADHD, behaviour problems, language disorders ... then we teach.
We assume responsibility for the learning of the student. We practise intensive behavioural interventions (IBI), discrete trial teaching and direct instruction.
We deal with problems. We do not remove students from the classroom because this would remove them from learning experiences. Instead we teach our students to find learning experiences rewarding.
Since good teaching requires personal involvement, we keep our student population small and we foster a well ordered, family-like atmosphere.
We blend treatment with schooling. We provide a balance of programmes. We blend academic skills, recreational skills and life skills to meet the intellectual, social, emotional, creative and physical needs of our students.
We teach how to generalize, how to infer, how to learn, how to develop one's memory. We teach how to play, how to relate and interact with others. We believe that the exploration of knowledge is as important as the acquisition of facts. We do not just "expose" students to content.
We teach confidence and competence through a realistic sense of success.
