History of Kohai
Kohai's roots go back to 1973 when Simone Lebrun opened Camp Kohai as a summer treatment centre for children and adults with emotional, intellectual and behavioural disorders. The camp evolved into a day school in September 1976 at the request of the parents.
Kohai Educational Centre was founded by Simone Lebrun and Gord Queen as a unique, small school where the teaching principles were based on learning theory and yet where individuality could be recognized and academic pursuits encouraged in all children. It was recognized as an independent school by the Ministry of Education in 1977. The school and its programmes are designed to fit the needs of its students.
In 1987, Kohai was designated a Registered Charity No. 11898 6694 RR0001. Kohai is a member of the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario, Ontario Federation of Independent Schools and SPECTRA - Partners in Specialized Education.
