Barbara is our school principal and member of the senior team. Her experience working in specialised education spans over 35 years. She began her work at Kohai as a classroom teacher in 1991. Working closely with Kohai teachers and the senior team, she helps to develop individualised programming for our students and provides supervision and support to our teaching staff.
Virginia began teaching at Kohai in 2001. After a few years spent away, she relocated to join our team again in 2014 and work with our teenaged students. She recently completed a BCBA certification.
Jessica has taught our elementary-aged students since 2011 and arranges numbers in our annual concert. She recently completed a Master of Applied Disability Studies degree, bringing her ABA research back to the classroom.
Kate joined the Kohai team in 2015 as our arts teacher. With a background in music and visual art, she helps to develop creativity, verbal skills and fine motor skills in our students through art and song.
Wendy is a member of our senior team. Her involvement with the school began in 1976 at Camp Kohai and then became a founding staff member of Kohai Educational Centre. She has particular experience and expertise in teaching using sign language as well as using play to teach and enhance language skills. She is instrumental in developing skills within our staff group.
Saima joined the Kohai team in 2004. She teaches students in our continuing education programme where the focus for our adult learners is on furthering life skills and academic skills for independent living.
Melissa has been our music teacher since 2011. A jazz musician, she brings her musical knowledge to the classroom where she teaches Kohai students to sing and play a variety of instruments.
Meghan heads up social media and graphic design at Kohai. She began as our art teacher in 2013 and has since turned her skills to designing our promotional materials and keeping us current online.
